Clinton on NAFTA

Was she for it or against it? Depends on when you ask her. Her campaign line now is that she was always against it; however, the newly-released White House records show her ardent support:

The Anniversary of the Iraq "War"

Yesterday, the five year anniversary of the start of the Iraq "war", passed quietly - there was an almost reverent feeling about it. In that spirit Obama delivered a speech on the war in a small venue in North Carolina:

What can go Wrong in a Florida Re-Do?

A very funny article from the Miami Herald:

10 most asked questions about a Florida re-do

Will it be Suburblicans or Suburblicrats?

Good article on swing voters:

'Raw Politics'

Will of the People?

Will of the people, delegate leader, leader of the popular vote (do you count Michigan and Florida, thereby possibly changing the popular vote under questionable-at-best circumstances) or the "best representative of the Democratic Party". Ultimately what (or who) will decide the nomination in this grueling contest? Some thoughts on the subject:

April 16th or April 19th - or Both?

Both camps have agreed to a debate in Pennsylvania on April 16th on ABC.
Obama is insisting on another debate in North Carolina on April 19th on CBS
with Katie Couric and Bob Schieffer.

The Clinton campaign has not yet agreed to the North Carolina debate.
Is that because North Carolina is another state that does not matter?

You be the judge!

At any rate (and as usual) we will have to wait and see.

Clinton vs. Uncommitted

Michigan, a state that moved up its primary in direct violation of Democratic party rules, was stripped of its delegates for the national convention.

Clinton, the only Democratic candidate still in the contest whose name was on the ballot (the other party on the ticket was Uncommitted), thinks that Michigan should be counted and that the original count should stand.

Say What?

Here is what we know:

10/10/07 - Hillary Clinton asked by New Hampshire Public Radio why she wouldn't take her name of the Michigan ballot: "It's clear this election they're having is not going to count for anything."

03/13/08 - Hillary Clinton asked by National Public Radio whether she thinks it is fair to count Michigan when only she had her name on the ballot: "But we all had a choice as to whether or not to participate in what was going to be a primary. and most people took their names off the ballot, but I didn't."

Decide for yourself ... as for me, I know when something in my fridge is past its prime.

Here is the rest of the story ...

Also here ....

Earmark Transparencies

The Obama campaign released their earmark information in response to a rally from the McCain camp for both Democratic candidates to come forward with their spending plans. The Obama and McCain camps then teamed up to request that the Clinton camp follow suit.

They (and we) are still waiting ... I'll bet they are filed right next to the tax returns!

Who is the Best General Election Candidate?

Greetings everyone!

Here is a quote from a really good article on Real Clear Politics by Thomas Edsall.
Of course I used the Obama comment - insert wink here - but the article is balanced
in its evaluation of who is the better candidate and why:

"Obama is the hope and future of the Democratic Party, not Hillary, and everyone knows it. He is the one bringing new energy and voters. He could be a Democratic Reagan, invigorating the party for 25 years. If the Clinton people knee-cap Obama, it would be like killing Santa Claus Xmas morning in front of the children. The children won't forget or forgive."

Enjoy and have a great day!

Good Morning and Welcome to the Mississippi Primary!

First of all, I want to share a really great site about Mississippi. I learned a lot and dispelled a lot of presumptions that I did not know I had about the state:

Mississippi Believe It

Now on to politics - not necessarily one of the better and brighter things - but something that is definitely on all of our minds lately. Not that we have a choice - alright, so I did choose to get this involved in the process - but how about all of you who simply cannot escape it? How are you feeling out there?

I know that I now approach each site in the morning with an equal amount of excitement and dread. Who is doing the talking - the candidates, campaign staff, other prominent figures, news media (television, print and online communities) - the investigation of that one question alone can occupy your entire day. Before you know it, another day has indeed gone by and you are welcomed to your bookmarked sites with a newer, shinier brand of horror. Just when you think it is safe to return or to go outside (hey, it is sunny out there and I do get off the computer once in awhile) you find yourself wondering where the tire treads on your torso came from. Funny how that can happen whether you are outdoors or not.

At any rate, here are a few of the best(?) from this morning:

An assist to the Clinton campaign from another famous female political figure:
The Daily Breeze, Geraldine Ferraro and "If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. ..

Today's Election:
Mississippi's Time to Decide

M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I

"There's a primary today in Mississippi, but, like Wyoming, nobody's talking about it."

That is all I have for now - Go Mississippi!

Deborah Holds the Torch for Barack!

January 18, 2008 - the day that I decided to become actively involved in anything political and also the day before the Nevada caucuses. That day I discovered Barack Obama and I discovered a lot more about myself. This campaign resonates with me on many levels, the first of which is the message of hope and change presented with intelligence and articulation. Not just words, not just promises, but a new way of looking at all the old things. Another important aspect for me is the opportunity we all have right now - to bring people together.

So, whether you agree with me or not, I challenge all of you to learn as much as you can about all of the candidates and make up your own mind. It seems almost impossible, with all of the information out there, to discover the truth. But I did it, so you definitely can!

In this blog I am hoping to provide you with the links to the best political brains out there to help you in your search. I promise to be honest with you in all of my correspondence as to where I stand and I will do so without berating any other candidate.

Please feel free to join in, ask questions, request information and post your own comments!
There is so much more that we can learn together, and from each other, than we can alone.

So, here I am passing the first torch ... let's heat this place up!
